Mission Statement:
 
The Palm Beach County Band Camp’s goal is to provide a summertime opportunity for students to continue to develop musically as well as promote their enjoyment and understanding of music through the participation in regular rehearsals, master classes, listening sessions, and music theory/ear training lessons with professional instructors.

A brief historical timeline of the Palm County Band/Jazz Camp:

  • January, 2002 – Palm Beach County Band Camp incorporated and designated as a non-profit organization
  • June, 2002 – First band camp held at Santaluces High School; the camp ran for three weeks from 8:30 AM-12:30 PM and included band rehearsals, master classes, jazz ensemble and private lessons
  • June, 2003 – First week-long jazz camp added to cater to the specialized needs of up-and-coming jazz enthusiasts; the camp ran for one week from 9 AM-4 PM and included jazz ensemble rehearsals, improvisation classes, master classes, daily listening sessions and staff performances
  • June, 2009 – Vocal jazz component incorporated into Jazz Camp with artist/educator Lisanne Lyons as the instructor
  • June, 2009 – Band Camp changed to a two-week, six-hour a day camp to allow more time for master classes, listening sessions and music theory/ear training instruction as well as brass and woodwind ensembles for advanced students.

Palm Beach County Band Camp Administration:

David Gibble - Co-founder, Artistic Director
Associate Professor at Palm Beach State College since 1995 where teaches Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Applied Trumpet and Music/Jazz Appreciation.  He coordinates and participates in 15-20 performances at the college each year with a variety of ensembles.   Twice he has been the guest director for the Palm Beach County High School All-District Jazz Band.  Gibble also freelances as a trumpet player all over South Florida in both the jazz and classical idioms having performed with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Duffy Jackson Big Band, the Brass Renaissance and the Florida Wind Symphony as well as many others.   He also has several arrangements for jazz ensemble published through UNC Jazz Press.  Prior to his coming to Florida, he formerly taught instrumental music to grades 4-12 for eight years in Pennsylvania.

Nick Patsis - Co-founder, Business Manager
Band Director and Music Department chair at Christa McAuliffe Middle School and music teacher in Palm Beach County since 1978.  His duties include concert band and jazz ensemble as well as serving as the school’s Technology Coordinator and other numerous committees.  Before the Palm Beach County Band Camp Mr. Patsis was actively involved as a teacher and manager of the Palm Beach Community College Band Camp for 17 years.  He also continues to maintain an active freelance trumpet career and has performed with the Palm Beach Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, Florida Wind Symphony and numerous other professional and community organizations.
